Tesla Model Y Launched With Bold Design And Lots of New Features

Tesla’s 2025 Model Y, code-named Juniper, is finally available with a new and dynamic re-face. This model is now slimmer, more interior-rich, a better-performance, and now supposed to go longer as well. Deliveries in Australia are slated for mid-2025.

Impressive Exterior Facelift

The 2025 Model Y sports a redesigned exterior that is at once stylish and practical. Key features include split headlights, a full-width LED tail-light bar, and C-shaped air intakes. A redesigned bonnet is now lower and aerodynamic, thereby improving efficiency.

Both the front and rear bumpers have been restyled to provide a sportier look, while the rear bumper has also gained a large diffuser for enhanced aerodynamics. Alloy wheels are finished in two stylish designs, 19-inch “Crossflow” and 20-inch “Helix 2.0”.

One of the major new features is the illuminated “TESLA” lettering on the tailgate. There is also a new Glacier Blue exterior paint option for Australian buyers in place of the previous Solid Black option.

Enhanced Interior with Cutting-Edge Features

Inside, the 2025 Model Y mirrors the updated design of Tesla’s latest Model 3, while incorporating exclusive upgrades. A 15.4″ touchscreen infotainment takes center stage, offering slimmer bezels and improved brightness.

The gear selector has been moved to a slider in the touchscreen, streamlining the cabin. Other upgrades include a new dashboard, center console, and door panels. The 2025 Model Y looks quite sporty with its exterior update. Other updated features are the split headlights, a full-width LED tail-light bar, and C-shaped air intakes. It comes with an even more reimagined bonnet with an improved, aerodynamic structure for higher efficiency.

Front and rear bumpers have been redesigned for a sportier look. The rear bumper boasts a more pronounced diffuser, further improving the aerodynamics. Sporty-looking alloy wheels in 19-inch “Crossflow” and 20-inch “Helix 2.0” designs finish the restyled exterior.

One distinctive touch is the lit-up “TESLA” lettering on the tailgate. The other exterior paint finish option that’s being discontinued for Australian deliveries is the Solid Black finish. Instead, buyers get Glacier Blue as the alternative color finish.

Amazing Interior with Advanced Features

On the inside, the 2025 Model Y looks similar to Tesla’s refreshed Model 3, but with some unique enhancements. A new 15.4-inch screen dominates the center stack, boasting thinner bezels and an additional magnitude of brightness.

The gear selector has been moved to a slider on the touchscreen, and the cabin layout is simplified. Other changes include a new dashboard, center console, and door panels. Rear-seat passengers get an 8-inch display, along with power-folding and reclining seats for added comfort. Ventilated front seats, customizable ambient lighting, and improved soundproofing, thanks to advanced glass coatings and insulation, ensure a quieter, more premium driving experience.

Performance and Range

All model variants of the new Model Y provide more power and range. The rear drive version has a 210kW motor which will go from 0-500 kilometers. The Long Range version provides additional power to the motor, that being 370 kW and goes to more than 600km range. The highest spec is of course the performance version with a 375kW motor able to get 0-100km/h in under four seconds.

Tesla credits these enhancements to refined aerodynamics and a retuned suspension, which also improves comfort on rough roads. Noise reduction from road and wind has further elevated the overall driving experience.

Australian Debut, Launching and Pricing

For the Australian market, Tesla has introduced a limited series of the 2025 Model Y. It has two variants – the Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range All-Wheel Drive. The cost of the two models is pegged at $63,400 and $73,400 plus on-road costs, respectively.

The prices of the new car models are now higher than in previous models as against the decline earlier. Unique features of the Launch Series are 20-inch wheels, premium metallic paint, black suede dashboard accents, and puddle lights. Once the special edition sells out, some of these premium elements might become optional add-ons.

Resurgence in Demand and Increased Variants

Tesla plans to re-ignite the sales momentum of the updated Model Y after the slight decline witnessed in 2024. Though it declined slightly, the Model Y is still the best-selling EV in Australia. A third row of seats might be appealing to families, while a long-wheelbase version, due sometime later in 2025, may appeal to buyers wanting a large, luxurious electric SUV.

Smarter tech for an even smoother drive

The updated 2025 Model Y brings substantial tech to make driving more effortless and safe. For efficiency, there are low rolling-resistance tires, and it has a front bumper camera for visibility when parking.

The touchscreen gear selector updates the driving experience, though the indicator stalk still lingers in the absence of feedback from its removal on other Tesla models. Connectivity has also been upgraded for better call clarity, faster internet, and extended range for the Phone Key feature.
